Red Rocks Hike and Misc

We spent last Sunday tooling around Red Rocks on a beautiful day in Denver. Lucy loves fresh air! We still haven't received much snow and today it hit 64. A mild winter in town with snow in the mountains is never to be complained about.

More Firsts

Wednesday was made "hump day" in the literal sense as Lucy's first tooth bulged in her lower gum, then broke through over night leaving a small, jagged ridge of white. As if a single achievement was not enough, she also decided she was ready to exercise her abdomen and balance herself just enough to remain perfectly upright; teetering to the left and right, but always catching herself rather than falling dramatically like a bowling pin. A big day indeed..."she's so advanced."

A tribute to her clearly enriched mind:

A Sunday with the knowledge of another day away from the office is always a good day, indeed. After a relatively lazy morning, we got out the door sans directions and slowly made our way to Old Town Arvada for brunch with some good friends at Udi's Pizzeria. Several hours of fantastic food and conversation passed quickly. Lucy thoroughly enjoyed the whip cream from Dad's french toast. Across the street from Udi's lies the Scrumptious candy store filled with every candy imaginable, including all kinds of esoteric bars and brands from years gone by. It is also the only place in Denver where I've found chocolate-covered gummy bears. Needless to say, I restocked our household supply which had dwindled to empty.

With Lucy's eyes fluttering, we left Arvada and headed for home. Post-nap, we resumed our lazy Sunday and turned our focus to food. Lucy is now sitting in her (very cool) high chair and has just begun to eat yogurt. By the end, she's a very happy mess. As hard as it was to abstain from joining Lucy, I decided to make a garlic and rosemary roasted fryer chicken, which turned out to be pretty spectacular. We caught a little of the Jets win, bobbed our heads to Pandora, read a little, then settled in to watch The Social Network. Originally, I had not been very excited to see it because I knew much of the story, but it was well done and generally entertaining. Somehow Kel managed to make it through the entire movie without falling asleep.

Because of MLK day, Kel and I will get to enjoy one of our first dates since Lucy was born - Sushi Den then The King's Speech at Landmark Theatres.

Almost Back in the Habit

Three posts already in 2011! Milestone achieved. We downloaded photos from our small camera last night and I thought there were a couple of gems worth sharing. A smattering of random photos.

Six Months

We made it! Six months have blown by and Lucy is officially .5 years old. There have been innumerable experiences packed into the last six months. We have to remind ourselves daily to be present and soak up all of the little moments.

Some of the highlights...

  • The first moment we saw Lucy and she swam from the doctor's arms toward her mom's voice
  • Lucy's first, rough-and-tumble bath with the nurse
  • Lucy meeting Maggie
  • Cheering for Dad at the Laramie Enduro
  • The snake we encountered on Lucy's first hike
  • Meeting both sets of grandparents, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins
  • Traveling to Georgia to meet Winston and Tommy
  • Christmas in Alaska
  • New Year's in Bozeman
  • The first smile, first belly laugh, first roll
  • ...countless others

Below our a couple of photos from the six month "birthday."

Two Months....Already

Time is flying...lovin' every minute of it. Lucy is doing great. Kel is back to work this week. She did pretty well the first day she dropped off Lucy with the babysitter.

Growing Growing

It's been a relaxing with Lucy. She's really settling into a good routine...we're very lucky as she is sleeping through the night on a consistent basis. We took her to a pool party last weekend and, as you may notice, she didn't enjoy the 72 degree water...bit of a shocker!

Growing and Smiling...

Lucy is definitely a sunshine baby...she's all smiles right now. We love it. It's bath time, but wanted to get these pics up since it had been a little while.

Lucy - 1 Month and Growing...

Time is flying by. Lucy no longer fits in her newborn clothes and is stretching the 0-3 months with her long legs and arms. We're settling into a nice routine and getting her out and about. A few pics from the last week or so...

Kel, Lucy, and Mom cheered me on through a tough day on the race course. I crashed at mile 7, lost a bunch of skin, and picked up numerous bruises to accompany me the next 63 miles to the finish line. I was flying through mile 40, but hit a wall around mile 45 and really slogged through the final 25 miles. It was great to have the family out there cheering me on - they were probably the only reason I finished. I was completely spent. It felt good to finish and provides some fuel for the fire next year.

First Hike

An eventful first hike as I nearly stepped on a 5 foot rattlesnake. Thankfully, Luce and I were spared after Maggie and Kel had already made their way past the snake. Besides the snake, it was a beautiful day in the foothills and Lucy took full advantage of it by sleeping during the entire 3 miles. At least she got some fresh air...

Revolving Outfits

In an effort to wear every article of clothing we've received Kel is on a mission to change Lucy 3-4 times a day. A bit of hyperbole, but she does look cute.

Fall in Crested Butte

I spent the weekend in Crested Butte with Casey and Andy before Case gets married next weekend. We put in a couple of epic rides and had near perfect weather. Reno/Flag/Bear/Deadman and 401 make for an outstanding weekend...

Crested Butte - 5 Year Anniversary

Kel and I made our way to Crested Butte this weekend to celebrate our 5 Year Anniversary. We had a great time. The wildflowers were on full display, the weather was gorgeous, and we had enough to time to relax and operate sans schedule. A few pics below...

Kel and I went up to Vail this weekend so I could race in the Teva Mountain Games. I raced in the Expert class with the pro's (including 3 Olympians). Needless to say, it was humbling, but I felt like I rode fast. 17 miles and 4500 feet of climbing...the last climb was brutal. We had a great time...

We had a great time in Moab. The rain came here and there, but just added a little variety and cooled it down a bit. Below are some pics.
